hard drive config

i have a p5k motherboard up todate bios with two 250gb hardrives installed what i wont to do is install a western digital 500gb but when i install it dose not come up on my computer but it dose on bios so i fort i try formating it with vist cd but still dose not come up on computer is there somthing im doing wrong. cheers
 
Are you running vista currently? (you mention 'formatting with vista cd' - do you mean you starting vista install process with just the 500 connected)?

Have you tried running disk management (run diskmgmt.msc from withing vista or XP) - to initialise the drive?
 
You probably need to format the disk in Windows before you use it. Go to Disk Management (right-click Computer, Manage, Disk Management) and right-click the Volume, Format.

i doing a full slow format this is going to take some time . thanks for all the help so far
 
boo234...there is usually a "quick format" option...it only takes a few seconds.

when i did the quick format it said the format did not complet succsessfully strait away within 3 sec
 
when i go to the hard drive and click properties it says used space 0 bytes free space 0 bytes . device status working properly

Did you check the partion to make sure you made one?

I'd run the drive manufacturer's diagnostic (usually available from their website) on that drive - suspect its faulty.
 
Sometimes writing zeros to the drive will correct formatting & partitioning errors.

Or delete the Partion and creat a new on and then format.
