Hello:
I am new to assembly language, I used to program in assembly for the 8088 back in the late 70's but have not do so since. I am a proficient programmer in VB.

Can someone give me an example of a routine to read & write data (BYTES) to the hard drive. example: If I want to write the letter (A) to head-0 cyclinder-1 sector-10 offset-312.

Also does anyone know where the (Engineering Sectors) might be located. I was told by Maxtor that the Model Number you see in the setup screen when your computer boots is located in the engineering sectors. (Not a rom or flash-rom).

Can someone recommend a good beginning book?

Thanks for your help.
