Hello,
I am using XP Pro which gets automatically updated along with Norton, which is also current.
I accidentally filled the disk to capacity during a backup. After deleting the large files and checking the recycle bin the disk is still full. How can I get the free space back?
Your assistance is appreciated.

doesnt norton have a recycle bin to empty? also try defrag.

I checked the Norton recycle bin. I also tried using a chkdsk command in DOS, and did not come up with any fragmented files.
The defrag will just re-arrange the data on the disk, as far as I know.
Thanks

You will find a lot of space saving/recovering suggestions if you read this thread and read any links from it.

PS. Don't forget the space gobbling System Restore.

Advice check all temp folders for certain ones can be hidden and after a long time take up alot of space. Also you can free some more space up by reducing the ammount allowed by internet explorer.

I fixed the problem! I freed up 18 Gig of my 21 gig drive.
I tried removing the restore points and that only freed up about 25 mb.
The problem seemed to go away after I went into Norton utilities option and emptied protected files.

Thanks for your suggestions.
This forum is cool!

I normally keep "protected files" turned off for this very reason.
