I bought following items to build a server
Intel Core i7 920; ST31000340AS 1TB;Antec Sonata III, DDR3 6GB 1600MHz TRI CHA;Asus P6t Delux LGA 1366 Intel X58/ICH10R Tripple Channel DDR3 3 PCI-E ,6 SATA II 2xGbE;LG 22X INT Sata GH22LS30;EVGA 8400GS 512MB

I assembled all the pieces and started the computer with Windows Server 2003 CD in DVD- It said no hard disk detected. It then started installing Windows Server - it did ask me to format the disk and I did format it to NTFS ( I was surprised to get this far as it said no hard disk found) and then installed Windows server 2003. I got the impression that it went all fine as I didn't get any error. After the install computer restarted and again gave me the error no hard disk found and then it showed me Windows server 2003 screen as if it's loading the operating system and then I see a black screen with a msg - "No input signal".I am not sure what's wrong. This is my first assembly. Please help.

thanks

In BIOS, look for a SATA or Onboard Devices setting where you might find the SATA controler. Turn RAID off, use SATA as IDE or Legacy Mode (no AHCI). Use only one stick of RAM, disconnect anything not necessary for boot (peripherals, card readers, case USB ports etc.) See how she goes now.

Maybe unrelated but read the post below about avoiding SD1A Seagate flash!
Yours is probably one of the effected 1TB drives that needs a firmware flash to avoid rendoring the drive 'undected in the bios' that sounds familiar.
Usually these drives are not effected straight away as the flaw in the fimware rendors the drive undetectable after a set amount of I/O on/off cycles (thats why I'm not sure if this is the issue with yours)
Anyway, if it needs flashing the firmare has now been swapped for one that does work...so ignore the title in the post.
Basically download the ISO, make a boot disk from it, boot into the utility, choose the correct drive number and flash.

Thanks guys for the help. I went into bios.. didn't find a place to turn the RAID off. Somewhere I saw it was showing RAID 0 RAID 1 RAID 2.
Sata is set to IDE.
Anyway not sure what happened but I started seeing blue screen of death :(. So I disassembled the whole thing and I am taking it back to fries. I had 500W power supply and the mother board said it needs 600W power supply. I think my case power supply wasn't enough may be.

Underpowered PSUs usually won't cause BSODs, I'm betting it was a RAM compatibility issue. No matter where you buy your stuff, go to the motherboard's web site and buy RAM that is listed by the mfr. as compatible. An underpowered PSU would cause lack of booting or strange shutdowns, but not what you describe.

Next build, take your time and make sure everything is just so, it's good to have a guide, even an old one like this:

Best of luck next time!
