I have a problem with my PC. Whenever I am using my PC, when I'm in the middle of something(word, internet, mails,etc...) it hangs after sometime. But when I left it open and not using it, it doesn't hang up. When I say it hangs up, it means that the mouse and keyboard is not responding. I tried replacing the Memory, change it's slot. I also tried replacing the CMos battery but the same problem keeps on pestering me.

Can anyone give me some tips on what could be the problem if a pc hangs every now and then whenever being used? Just some pointers on what to look for.

any help would do.

regards,

Leshter

It may be your antivirus running and doing a scan.

CTRL+ALT+DEL look to see what processes are running.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

It could be a lot of things: infection, overheating, dying hard drive, etc.

In many cases, pausing and freezing is caused by overheating. When did the problem start? Have you made any major upgrades/changes recently?

If you leave the PC off all night, does it still happen immediately when you try it the next day?

cdogg is right, the symptoms you're describing are very generic.

1. Check to see that you have the latest firmware.

2. Try System Restore to a time when your comp was stable.

how old is your machine?

Are you on line all the time?

have you installed all service packs for the operating system? and all software

have you checked for all hardware updates

these are the basics before we go elsewhere
