HELP. I am up the creek without a paddle - the original company that set up my phone system went under and can not even come over to help. My back-up NEC guy has vanished from the area with no forwarding address or phone number. Another local NEC dealer said they could help but then missed their appointment and have stopped returning my calls. Yet another local NEC dealer has different hours than I do and all I have only been able to reach their answering service. Does anyone out there know how to enter into the secondary level of administrative "messages" to make changes(the ones beyond the general booklet "Attendent User Guide" and done via the main/admin. handset)? I have my "Automated Attendent" set up to allow incoming calls to access a "411" directory in the event that they don't know their target's extension number or the spelling of that person's last name. I can change my greetings and switch between alternate greetings, but I cannot access the 411 list that I had created over a year ago in order to change it. (Outside callers can type 411 during the initial greeting to get into this "list" to hear it and call dial the extensions or "0" to return to the attendent). I have done this before, with assistance, but now I forget the code to get there. If anyone knows the answer please share it with me.
Thanks, Lorraine

Well somebody here I'm sure can help soon, some of the smarter techs will have mialboxes associated with transaction boxes like 411 I believe... so to change the message you would simply leave that mailbox a message from your mailbox only if your mailbox was granted permission.
Programming from the Handset is so very limited.
I would suggest you get a PC hooked up to the vmail com port and get Co-session software in the meantime.

Yeah, what curlycord said. If you've never seen the terminal programming interface.....you are missing out!

Thanks to all for responding.

I am located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

I am using an NEC Electra Elite 48 system with EliteMail VMS. I am fairly certain that I do have "access" as I was able to do this from my main "attendent" handset before. And yes, doing it from a laptop would be sweeter, but I don't have the "tools" for that at this time. Or the time to master everything I would need to know - yet(I hope that I will find a local expert who can assist with major programming and/or system expansion before things get too out of hand).

You can try dialing 555, the default directory and see what happens.
If nothing happens, you WILL need PC, cable and Co-Sessions.
Directory is not a function of Touch Tone System Admin tools.
