Hi. Has anyone noticed a handle leak in their applications when connecting to a Sybase dataase through the Sybase ASE ODBC Driver version 3.70.00.20 and then executing a query or store procedure?

My Windows application spawns x number of threads and each thread connects to a sybase DB and calls a store procedure on the sybase db and disconnects. There doesn't seem to be a problem if I just connect and disconnect, but when every time a thread calls the store procedure the handle count of my application increases by 1. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I've never coded with Sybase's ODBC drivers, but it's not too surprising. You might be stuck with needing a more shall we say, commercial-grade, ODBC driver. There's quite a number out there. Also report the problem to Sybase. It sounds serious enough that they really would want to know. If you can't connect to their support pages, post something on the appropriate Sybase forum where Sybase employees lurk.

Best of luck. Nasty problem!

Thanks for the response!
I'll definitely submit a bug to Sybase.

Also, I don't know if you've already checked to be sure Sybase hasn't posted an "EBF" that includes the ODBC driver. Definitely worth a look (it's probably part of the ASE package and you'd just have to look through the "cover letter" to see if there's any mention of ODBC.

Just wanted to let you know that I opened a case with Sybase about this issue and a couple of days later had a fix in the form of a new driver (version 4.20.00).
