Half-Life: Counter-Strike Errors..PLEASE HELP!

Counter-Strike has been working untill a new update came out. v1.4, by the way this is a computer game.. anyways.. when i installed the update thats when things started going wrong. First, the games wernt loading or even showing up on the list of servers.. now they show up but when i try to join i get an error saying i couldnt establish a connection, but that happens with all the servers i try to join... PLEASE HELP ME!

if you want to fix this prob try providing some info like:

CPU
memory
OS
video card
et. al.
