HACMP 4.5 on AIX 5.2

Hi,

Current I have several running HACMP (v4.5) clusters on AIX 5L v5.1.
I'm upgrading AIX to version 5.2 but when I try to install HACMP v4.5 I get the following prerequisite failure:

devices.sys.pci.rte 5.1.0

This package doesn't exists on AIX v5.2. It is not on the AIX CD's.
My question is doesn't HACMP v4.5 run on AIX 5.2? Do I have to upgrade to HACMP v5.1?

Strange, HACMP 4.5 has to run on AIX 5.2. I have a lot of such installations and don't remember error you reported.

Maybe HACMP ES 4.5 needs those two filesets on AIX 5.1. I don't have access to AIX 5.1 now, but I can access to AIX 4.3.3 (which does not have HACMP), and check the following. I guess you need to install it from your AIX 5.1 CD.

This is not enough to run HACMP ES 4.5.
Installing devices.sys.pci.rte 5.1.0.0 is not an option. This doesn't work tried already!

Hi!

I had similiar problem long time ago when I was trying to install HACMP 4.4.1 on AIX 5.2. Then I didn't know that HACMP 4.4.1 is not supported by AIX 5.2 - I found that error in /smit.log on AIX 5.2.

Maybe you should update your system to latest ML_02 (AIX52) and then try the installation again.


The docu for HACMP ES 4.5 say nothing about the problem with missing fileset.

I am guess (sure) you hadn't this problem if you were installed the system from scratch - not via migration 5.1 -> 5.2.

I didn't do a migration from AIX 5.1 to 5.2 but I installed AIX 5.2 fresh from the IBM CD's.
After that I applied the latest ML available, ML 2.

So it's a fresh install of AIX 5L 5.2.0.2

For test I've run test (preview) installation of HACMP ES 4.5 on my AIX 5200-01 and no such error (you reported) appeared. Maybe you should order newer release of version of HACMP ES CDs - I see my are 4.5.0.2 and yours 4.5.0.0.

HACMP4.5 classic (not ES) is not supported above AIX5.1. If you want to run AIX5.2 you're best bet is to get a copy of HACMP 4.5 ES. You notice that the install is looking for an AIX5.1 fileset......

I have tried and it won't work. Either hold at AIX5.1/HACMP4.5 or get HAES and go to AIX5.2.

HA4.4.1 will run on AIX4.3.3
HA4.4.1, 4.4.1ES, 4.5, 4.5ES will run on AIX5.1
HA4.5ES and 5.1 will run on AIX5.2

This is from an IBM compatibility/what's supported matrix.

Since your present cluster is running classic your best bet is to do a migration to HA4.5ES first and then do the OS migration.

I had the same problem with a HACMP/ES 4.5 CD, which i could use under AIX 5.1, but not under 5.2. There is something strange with the .toc and so on. It is solved with the filesets 4.5.0.2 for HACMP/ES 4.5
