Has anybody built an IP line between IP Office software version 5.0(26) and version 10?
Or, does anybody think this will work?
I do not need to run SCN, just build a short code to dial between systems.

Thanks

SCN will not work. A short code might. You're better off upgrading to match releases.

Impossible to upgrade, our current system is on 412 and 406V2 systems, left high and dry by Avaya at version 5.

Thanks

Not impossible at all.. Find a business partner and upgrade your ancient hardware ;)

OK, here is the whole story, we have a business partner and are working on an upgrade path, we would like to leave a pert of the conglomerate on the older version for a period of time, then upgrade them later.

So we would like to start with a small implementation and be able to cross dial from one system to the other until the whole migration is done.

Then it sounds like you have a plan. Surely your BP can just setup an IP trunk between units and test? Would take them a few minutes.

Ahhh, yes, but I cannot spend any money until I have a plan, and I cannot have a plan without knowing if it will work.

Don't know what to tell ya then bud.. It should work. But without testing you won't know for sure.

It's your BPs job to come up with a plan, you should only need to decide on the options given (with pros and cons).

If your business partner does not know the answer to this question I would seriously question their competency!

I see no reason why a basic H323 trunk will not wok, after all that is a documented std protocol & can even be used to network to non-ip office systems
SCN is a proprietary addition on to of basic H323 which is why it can (& dos) change between releases.

As you have said SCN functionality is not required a H323 trunk with short-codes for call routing should be fine.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

A H323 line and short codes will work between the two systems.
I have this working now between a R5 IP500 V1 and a R10 SE.

I've had an H323 line working between R3.0 and R9.1 without any problems. The IPO400s don't need a voice networking licence but this is needed for IPO500s and it isn't cheap. It seems you are paying for the SCN functionality without the benefits. On the other hand this could be worth getting if you intend to upgrade to all IPO500s at some stage.

I've not tried it yet but you should be able to run SIP trunks (from R4.0) which are cheaper to licence.

Don't forget you can get trial licences for all of these if you want to prove it works!

It is called a voice networking license needed for peer to peer connections between systems of any brand using PRI-Qsig or H.323.
The SCN is added as a free feature between AVAYA IP Office systems.

Think positive and live happily!
