have setup a remote h.323 on ip office v9, phone is a 9608 with callsvr set as external Ipo address and rest of ip info picked up from remote routers dhcp. Phone registers and connects fine, issue is there is no audio either way however, phone rings, can dial out and send dtmf tones.

Suspecting some port issues on the remote end but the router is basic and only allows basic port forwarding (wont allow the bulk port range). Have tried the phone in dmz on remote router but same issue, also disabled firewall but still the same..

What's strange is have tried 2 x different extension/users, the first was set as a remote worker as documented, the 2nd just a standard user - both extensions gave the same state i.e. logged on but no audio, I'd have thought the standard user wouldn't have been permitted to work. Final thing is help files state that there should be a tab under the extension voip settings to 'Allow Remote Extn' but on V9 this doesn't appear to exist?!

any assistance much appreciated!

9.0 removed the remote extension part on the extension itself.
It is now only on the user.
Which ports did you forward?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

its a Huawei HG533

ports forwarded are 1719-udp, 1720-tcp, 41xxx-53xxx-udp , however I cant do the 41xxx-53xxx due to the router not allowing a large port range

You need to use a range for rtp which is the speech part.
You can however use a different range like 54000-54500 for example.

that would still be 500 entries and a new router that is maybe a couple of $$ more than the Huawei will do it.
Saves the hours of programming the 500 ports in :)

I just checked out the manual and this is a home router, not even a good one.
Get a better one they are not THAT expensive because if your IP Office is behind this router then you have it either at home (I hope) or you save at the wrong end for equipment.

hi sorry, I maybe confusing things here, the Huawei is the remote home router

regarding this, can anyone recommend a known working router for remote (home worker end)

You should not do anything on the home router.
What router is used on the IPO side?

ipo side is a draytek, the ip lan 2 (where the phone registers back to), plugs directly into the Draytek and has a public ip, so doesn't require any port forwarding

You will get hacked, don't leave it like this :)

I have this same problem on 1616i phones at a remote location. 7 phones and they randomly work. Pick up handset and sometimes you get dial tone sometimes not. Even with no dial tone you can make a call and connect but you can not hear either end. You can leave the call connected as long as you want to and all of the sudden you can hear each other fine. If you make a call from a phone with dial tone you can hear just fine. After you hang up the phone you may or may not have dial tone the next time you use it. Phones that have dial tone have all buttons functioning. When they don't have dial tone no buttons work. regardless of dial tone or not system status shows when you go off hook. You can also ping the phones regardless of dial tone or not.

amriddle, its setup so only certain remote networks can access

frontier4195, occasionally you get a second of tone but nothing more, not had the luxury of anything more :( , regarding your issue though potential phone issue as 16xx series are not supported?!

Try this NoUser source number: REMOTE_H323=1800
This will change the port from 1720 to 1800.
Some routers do not like 1720

not only should this never be done it is also not how remote h323 handsets work
They are expecting he IPO to be behind a firewall with port forwarding & as previously stated 16XX handsets do not support this mode of operation.

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.

Although this should work fine.
