Hello,

We have Aura/CM 6.2 and Session Manager 6.2 environment. Because we have a mix of analog, digital, H.323, and SIP endpoints the CM works as an Evolution Server.

What I need to clarify is how our H.323 and SIP phones handle calls between our remote sites which are connected via our MPLS provider.

My understanding is if a site with an H.323 phone calls a site with a SIP phone then the H.323 phone registers with CM and the SIP phone registers with Session Manager. Session Manager talks to CM and that is how the call is handled.

Someone else has the understanding the H.323 and SIP phones communicate directly because they are on our MPLS/SIP network.

Please clarify how the communications between H.323 and SIP phones work.

Thank you

My guess and I'll try testing it maybe later this week. H.323 talks to CM which uses a SIP trunk to talk to Session, which like you said means CM is your gateway to the SIP protocol.

However my coworker and I have been debating whether this scenario would be capable of shuffling the RTP streams directly to the sets.

Think of the session manager as a completely different PBX, that is just trunked together to your CM. Your SIP phones register to that PBX. The H323 and TDM phones register to the CM.
