I am trying to install GW65 on Windows 2003 SP1.
Client 4.91 Downloaded today. Edir 8.7.3 for Windows. All working fine on
thier own.

It gets to the point in the GW65 install of showing me the license agreement and then you agree, and it goes
away and never comes back.

Event Veiwer Reports Install.exe version 0.0.0.0 is the faulting application. 0x00920f94.

Dr watson says similar thing c0000005 for install.exe

When the box is rebooted, I also get an error saying that slpd.exe encountered a problem and needed to close. Event Viewer reports slpd.exe, version 0.0.0.0 is the faulting module. 0x0000ad83

I tried this install on a test server and it worked fine, no errors. The only thing different is the hardware.....

Any ideas???

I've had somebody else tell me they had problems with the same thing. They told me they couldn't do it with SP1 installed on W2k3. I Quote: "Ok well you might not care but I thought I'd update you anyways. Just plain 2003 works, install sp1 after the event or as part of the base install and GW won't install. "

You might have to install W2k3, then install GroupWise, then install SP1.

On a sidenote -- I can't verify what this person said, but I had the same problem just on W2K3 (Can't remember if SP1 was on at the time or not)... The problem turned out to be that I was installing through Terminal Service mode, and that just won't work. So either do it right from the console of the server, or when you TS in, use the /CONSOLE switch. You also might try Add/Remove to install instead of just running the setup.exe file.

what install are you running

i've never done an agent install on a MS box but i've certainly put the 6.5 client on a 2003 sp1 box with no probs

terry-I'm running the full 6.5 install(agents and client) on this box. It just loads the agent as a windows service...

marv-I thought about the sp1 issue, but I don't really think that it is the problem, since I installed it on a test server initially. Same os revision and patches, same services running, same gw install disks, everythings the same...... The only thing difference is the hardware.

Since my original post, another guy in my office suggested that it may be the fact that the test server has 1 processor and the new one has 2 processors. He said that GW just might not like dual processors. Could this be true??

Mike

I doubt that, but who knows. You're really just dealing with an Install program.. You're not actually running the agents yet.

Try it with Add/Remove and then point to the setup program.. I've seen that fix the problem too.

I've seen that too, but unfortunately, I've already tried it and it still doesn't work.....

number of processors isnt an issue

i wouldnt assume hyperthreading would be an issue either
afraid i cant think of anything

can you not run the agents on a proper box

Not sure what else to tell you. You gotta be in install mode (add/remove will do that) and you gotta be in console mode (be in front of it or use /CONSOLE switch on TS connection).

Oh, are you using the GW6.5 Original media? Or the service pack? You can install the full thing from the service pack. No need to use the original except to validate your licenses. Try using SP4 media and see if the results are any different.

I personally hate running GroupWise on Windows. It's a hassle. Novell did it to be cross platform friendly, but it runs best in its native environment.

Okay, I figured it out. I had to set DEP to essential windows programs and services only during the install.

Thanks for your replies!!!!
