GW 5.5 on backside of spam filter - retransfer?

I am having trouble sending e-mail to our local university. Recipient reports they do not receive the message. I do not receive anything back. Network Admin at school reports they are using "Mail Hurdle" to cut down on spam. This rejects the e-mail if the address is unknown. Asks the sending server to try again in 5 minutes. On second attempt, the filter lets the e-mail thru - and allows e-mail from this address for 30 days. Then it starts the reject procedure again. He suggests that my Groupwise installation is not "retransfering" the message. Also could be called "retransmit". Where and how does this get set?

What is the Action status on the sent items property screen? If the status is "Transferred", I would look more towards the problem being on the recipients end.

Thanks FarOut... The action is indeed "transferred". In fact all mail being sent to the internet has the action of "transferred" - mail that was properly received and mail that has never reached the recipients at the college. Is there a timing issue? The date and time on the recipient line is the exact same as the create date and time. The school's network admin said there should be a 5 minute interval before the re-transmit. Is that possible?
Thanks for your help!

Please excuse me but I am a little confused with your problem. You show that the mail was transferred from your GW system to another system. As far as the GWIA is concerned that transaction is complete and there is no further action required. The part that confuses me is the one about "Re-Transmitting" @ a five minute interval. Is this re-transmittal needed so that the schools end can complete/deliver to the recipient? I guess I am not seeing what you are asking. Which is always possible w/me.

hello dpeters
From what I understand, MailHurdle is more of an antiSPAM training engine then a standalone application. Kinda like SpamAssassin but usually works with other antiSPAM software or comes installed on hardware (like RazorGate).
MailHurdle will bounce the first email it receives from a sender -- anticipating a "re-transmit" from the sender.

However, like FarOut stated if your status/properties show "transferred" in Groupwise - there will be no "re-transmit" because its seen as a successful send, and the transaction is considered complete. If the status shows "pending" that means it's either been boucned or is simply waiting for system resources to become available to send it out.

Perhaps their description of a retransmit is really considered a DSN Hold age in Groupwise. If a message is sent from Groupwise to a valid address, but is not delivered for whatever reason, it will attempt to resend it for X amount of minutes/days. I'm not sure what the defaults were in GW5.5, but I think it's usually on a 4/4/4 cycle (every 4 minutes, then 4 hours, then 4 days)
Come to think of it, I'm not sure DSN was supported in in GW 5.5 -- that alone could be the problem.
Good Luck

Yes, the properties of a sent message shows action is transferred. I assume this indicates a successful send. True?

The tech at the school says that my server should be trying to resend the message.

Watching GWIA:
-------------------------
Detected error on SMTP command
command: RCPT TO: <address@school.edu>
response: 451 <address@school.edu>
requested mail action not taken; mailbox unavailable
Detected error on SMTP command
command: DATA
response: 503 need RCPT <recipient>
Building undeliverable message
--------------------------

Interesting thing, it reports it is creating an undeliverable message, but I never get a message.

So is Groupwise just giving up? Not trying to resend?

I found a paragraph in Novell Press' book Groupwise 5.5 Admin Guide that when an error 450 occurs, GWIA will attempt to send the message again later. I wonder if GWIA will do the same for a error 451 ?

Michigan, define for me "DSN Hold Age" and DSN not supported!!?!

Thanks
