EMC Networker 7.4.x on Solaris 10

Been having this problem for days...

nsrd daemon takes literally hours to startup from nsrexecd

Patched whole system from 7.4.1 to 7.4.2...

No change.

Getting following messages in /nsr/logs/daemon.raw (rendered to text) immediately after running /etc/init.d/networker start :

42506 05/06/09 13:21:08 2 0 0 1 23887 0 bkupsvr nsrd server notice: started
12521 05/06/09 13:21:08 2 0 0 1 23887 0 bkupsvr nsrd FATAL ERROR: GSS Legato: Could not get server credentials from authentication daemon.
12546 05/06/09 13:21:08 2 0 0 1 23887 0 bkupsvr nsrd shutting down
7116 05/06/09 13:21:08 2 0 0 4 23847 0 bkupsvr nsrexecd The user does not have the privileges perform the requested operation. Requester: EMCUserNone/bkupsvr.[DOMAIN]@(Unknown)

I've seen similar but not the SAME issues on other forums. Anyone have a quick answer ?

Thanks In Advance

P.S. I don't have the GST running. I've started nsrd previously without needing GST running. Having problems with GST too - some "dbsrvr9" process sits there and chews up CPU for ages... Do I need to have the GST up and running before I start the nsr services ? I thought GST was just for the Java admin console...

I might add - as it's not clear in my original post - the same symptoms pre and post patch 7.4.1 to 7.4.2

It's now 21:30... The "/etc/init.d/networker start" was issued at 13:21, and the nsrd process has not started again.

Does anyone know if the GSS being quoted above has ANYTHING at all to do with the GST process for the NMC ?

Gotta say I HATE this version of Networker!

7.1 and 6.x were FAR simpler... never encountered issues like this before...

GSS has nothing to do with NMC's GST processes - it refers to the 'strong authentication' which has been introduced with NW 7.3.0. This already is a client functionality - and because of that the server daemons will not start or can not properly initiate.

Unfortunately, there is no straight answer to your problem. However, if you query the internet for you error, you will actually find some other pages which may help you

I've rolled back to 7.4.1... we've only had 1 successful backup in 7.4.2.

Attempting to startup 7.4.1 - same symptoms... nsrd actually becomes resident for a few minutes - then bombs out with issues around GSS (entries as per above excerpts from /nsr/logs/daemon.raw).

I've checked using nsradmin if using strong auth - it isn't :

nsradmin> . type: NSRLA
Current query set
nsradmin> show auth methods
nsradmin> p
auth methods: "0.0.0.0/0,oldauth";

okay here's the upshot....
was some kind of problem with /nsr/res

recovering from bootstraps still didn't work...

had to restore /nsr/res from bootstrap using mmrecov

rename /nsr/res.R (restored via mmrecov) to /nsr/res

then in /nsr/res rename EVERYTHING except /nsr/res/nsrdb

start networker... wait some minutes, and it will rebuild the "old" configs with enablers groups clients pools etc...
