I work on a Helpdesk and have had a query sent to us which has left us all scratching our heads!
A user here has a Shared folder in Groupwise (version 6.5)The folder currently shows all emails as 'read', however the 'new mail' icon is still shown by the folder.

We have ran Groupwise checks and checked all Client options but still cannot resolve this issue.
If anyone has any ideas I'm open to anything!

I've seen that happen on Proxy user access when the user does not have enough permissions to view mail.. So they see the number showing there are new messages, but can't actually see the mail.

Not sure if this same thing would apply to shared folders...

I've had it happen to my box. The folder wasn't shared. Email was moved to it by rules. I marked all of the mail read. But the folder still showed 1 new item.

I don't think just re-starting the client helped. If I remember right, I marked a message Read Later, closed the box and then opened the message.

It wasn't a big deal for me so I didn't track it down from there.

Thanks for your comments guys. I know this isn't the most life threatening problem, but the person I'm dealing with finds it a problem. Therefore I want to help her out.
Basically, if someone adds mail(s) to the folder, she wants to know about it by seeing the New Mail icon. But at the moment there is always the New Mail icon displayed so she is constantly having to monitor this folder.

Any new ideas are welcome!

Thanks again,
Lauren

I would:

1. Have the owner of the folder check to see how many items are actually in the folder. Then, have the "problem" user check how many items are in their version of the folder. If the number is different, then have the owner remove the shared user and re-add them. Perhaps this will make a difference.

2. In the "problem" user's mailbox, view the "Display" properties of the folder and be sure that all item types are visible. It's possible that there is an item in the folder which is hidden by the display properties.

These things may seem trivial, but that's where I'd start.

Hope it helps,
Ron
