I am using a spam filter called Postini. We have one user who is still getting spam. Postini is telling us to setup our Groupwise server to only accept mail from them. How do I do this?

Any info would be great.

Thanks,
Bryan

Hi,

What they are probably trying to say is to close all SMTP ports on your firewall with the exception of allowing mail to flow from Postini.

If it is your need to close off all incoming SMTP messages except from a specific address you can do that under the GWIA objects property screen, GWIA/Access Control/Default Class of Service. Edit the default class of service and select "Prevent Incoming Messages" on the SMTP Incoming screen. You can then setup Postini as an exception address on the same screen under "Exceptions: Allow messages from". If you have created any additional Incoming SMTP service(s) then you will need to make the same changes to them also.

I agree with Far Out's config - if you can set the access control here as well as the firewall, all the better. (defense in depth)
The caveat - if you have any boxes which send email alerts you need to add them to the exceptions list such as AV servers, firewalls, remote admin cards, copiers which email PDF's, etc. They will likely be using your SMTP server and accounts and if they are prevented from relaying, well you do the math. ;)

I have a client that uses Postini and they have no problem at all with this... Is it possible that you don't have your MX record set correctly? Your MX record(s) should point to whatever Postini system is handling your mail filtering. It shouldn't be pointed to your own GroupWise server. Also do you have an A record that is something like MAIL.MYDOMAIN.COM? I would get rid of that if you do and aren't using it anymore.
