I sure hope someone here can help me. I am trying to install GroupWise 5.5 on a Windows XP Pro laptop.

My problem I believe is Windows Messaging System is not installing properly. When I try to install WMS (I grabbed a copy from the Novell site), it will go through the install alright, but will lockup at the very end. I check Add/Removed Programs and it shows WMSforNT installed. Anyhow, I then try to install GroupWise client and the message "Windows Messaging System Not Installed" press continue to install. I do so and nothing happens. When I try to log off, I then get an end-task box letting me know the "HTML Packaging" is not responding. Somehow I think this is part of the GroupWise install as it only showed up after trying and failing to install GroupWise. When I hit End-Task, I briefly see the GroupWise setup window open before the machine logs off. I cannot end the HTML Packaging manually as it does not show up in the task list and I was not able to find anything related to it in Services.

So, does anyone have any suggestions.

1. Is there an uninstall app to remove Windows Messaging System from XP?
2. Do I use the same WMS file Novell supplied for NT and Win2000?
3. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I should also mention that GroupWise was working on this box. The reason it is not any longer is that the copy and paste would not work when creating a new mail. I would copy text from Corel WP and try to paste it in new mail message and nothing would happen. I thought I would uninstall GW and reinstall. When reinstalling the WMS not installed messaged occured.

pvrrev,

Here is what we did. We installed the NT Windows Messaging. I don't recall what version. I still have the file I downloaded it is NTWMS.EXE. Anyway, install windows messaging. Groupwise still thinks you have the wrong version and whants to install it again. But say no to the install and everyting will work fine.

Good luck.

You may want to uninstall and remove everything, THEN start over again. Use the GroupWise Cleaning Agent, which is available from the Novell Support Website, to completely remove GroupWise from the Workstation.

You you install the Windows Messaging System, make sure that you are selecting the correct location of the downloaded files.

Also, make sure that Windows XP has all of the latest and greatest OS patches! Thats VERY important!

Good Luck!
