I cannot get Groupwise 5.5 to run on WinXP or on Win2000 with Office XP. I downloaded the Groupwise cleaning agent.
I installed NTWMS.EXE Ran Groupwise installation again, no go.
I have an ACER 7200D wich comes pre-installed with WinXP.

Whenever I install groupwise it stops with "InstallShield Engine EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close" Error report refers to: AppName:_ins0432._mp ModVer:3.50.5014.0 AppVer:3.0101.0 ModName: oleaut32.dll Offset:00018bb
I have sent countless error reports to MS but to no avail.

Please assist.

I am running GW 5.5.3 with Win XP and Office XP and have been for about 6 - 7 months now with no problem. Look back in this forum as it had something to do with Windows Messaging. You need to load the correct windows messaging files.

I loaded the windows messaging files from the Novell site.I have 7 computers with the same specs to roll out so I would really like to know what I am doing wrong. I have read most of the Groupwise 5.5 and XP issues on the forum but I can't seem to find one that works for me. This leads me to believe that I am missing something.

What I found is that in order to get Groupwise to work you have to uninstall OutlookXP then install the NTWMS.exe from Novell, then install Groupwise. I just did this on about 30 machines and it worked fine but if you leave OutlookXP that's where you run into trouble.

Yep...can't run Outlook on the same machine as GroupWise...When we install Office on any machine, we always make sure to de-select Outlook. **Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.**

Thanks for replying. I am investigating the probability of removing Outlook Express. Seeing that this is a computer[acer veriton 7200D] that comes pre-installed with Win XP Proffesional the OEM license holder needs to find out how to remove Outlook Express as this is not an option with my edition upon the installation of IE6.

Hmmm... re:removing Outlook Express. Do you have the Office XP CD? If you do a custom install from it, you should be able to remove Outlook and Outlook Express. Jennifer Sigman

THE OEM version usually does not include the CD for Office. **Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.**

I have had the same problem with Win2K and both GW 5.5 and 6.0. Removing Outlook is a pain. It is installed to every user profile on the machine and there is no uninstaller in Control Panel to be found. Even Norton Clean Sweep only removes it One user at a time. I finally found this on the MicroSoft Support Site (Q263837) which explains how to manually remove Outlook from Win2k. I don't know if this will work on WinXP but it may help. Give it a try.

It seems like it was only written for Win2k. Everytime I rename the files that the support site suggest, it recreates itself - rather spooky. As soon as I get rid of Outlook Express 6 I'll follow the steps to install groupwise 5.5

Thanks.

I am running GW 5.5, Win XP and Office XP. We just got a bunch of new Dell's that I had to install GW on. I have had some issues but all worked out in the end. This is the order of operations that worked for me most of the time.
1. Install Novell Client on new PC, ver. 3.31 or higher.
2. Install Windows Messaging NTWMS.EXE.
3. Install GW client 5.5.4 or higher, with these options:
a.) do not install GW WMS - that was already done.
b.) choose custom standard install (not workstation).
c.) choose GW and Notify options only.
d.) do not enable integrations.
4. Order of Office install did not seem to matter, but not installing Outlook is a good idea, Outlook Express should be ok - it comes with IE.
5. If anything goes wrong, and it has, I had to completely uninstall NTWMS & GW (sometimes even using the cleanup tool for GW), and then trying it all over again.
6. On even fewer occasions I have needed to install a new version of windows installer - this was for older PC's not the new XP PC's. I mentioned this in relation to your InstallShield Engine error - have you checked both Novell's and Microsoft's Knowledge base for that error?

Another issue could be pre-installed software on the Acer - they usually load them up with a bunch of crap.

Hope some of this helps - much of it is a repeat of what others have said, but just letting you know that it can and should work. Keep trying and good luck.

Oops, my Novell Client ver. is wrong from my message above, it should be ver. 4.82 or higher for XP. My bad.

You don't need to remove Outlook Express. The problem is Outlook (the one that comes with the MS Office package). Outlook Express does not conflict with the GroupWise client.
