Goodafternoon to all,

I have a report that I am grouping by customer name. My customer names are entered manually by the employees.
What happens is the following.
Say for example my company name is ABC Corporation.

Sometimes the name is entered as ABC Corporation, ABC Corp, or ABC Corp. Crystal views each variation as a totally different name.

Is there a function/formula that can have Crystal group similar entries together or perhaps read only the first few characters of each name...

Thank You,

You could use something like:

left({table.company},3)//for the first 3 letters

You also might consider grouping based on a company ID instead, and then use the company name (whichever shows up first in the group) instead of the ID for display. You could still sort the groups based on the name by inserting a maximum on the company name in the detail section at the company ID group level and then doing a group sort based on the maximum of company name.

Thank you!

I went ahead and used the grouping based on a company ID instead of the name.
