Hello everyone! I need to create a report in which I group by 1st and 2nd segment of my GL #'s. My general ledger is broken up as follows 4000-1-022 where the first 4 #'s represent my general ledger account break (i.e. revenues, expenses, etc.) the 5th number represents department and the last 3#'s represent location. I need to group by the 1st and 2nd segment to show revenues, expenses, etc. by department. The location doesn't really matter and can be suppressed because it's considered detail and they fall under depts. Could I please get ideas on how to create this formula. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

For a text field use Left({Fieldname},4) or use left(totext({fieldname},0,""),4) for a number field.

Then group on this formula. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
