Hello @all!

I have a very very strange problem. I created a group for Daily backups (named Daily). One client, my exchange server, is in this group with the following savesets:
SYSTEM STATE:
SYSTEM DB:
SYSTEM FILES:
C:
E:
F:

I also created a pool named Daily and allowed the group to save to that pool. The other options (backup level, savesets, clients) are left empty.

If I start the group through the gui, it tries to backup to pool default. So something is setup up wrong.
But now to the strange thing:

I tried to start the group from command line with

savegrp -pvv Daily

to test the settings and he said that he would backup to pool Daily. [surprise]
When I start the group with

savegrp -vv Daily (without the probe option)

then the group tries to backup to pool default again. [mad]

I don't know what to do because i cannot see any difference between starting the group with probe option and without.
[bomb]

Thx4help!

Hallo Speridal

check the Setting of your pool
Maybe yor pool ( daily ) isn´t enabled. check the pool by starting the GUI. Edit the Pool and look under the Preferences if the pool is enabled

by the -p potion no writing will be done it´s only a simmulation
If you want to write on tapes and your pool doesn´t work correctly or is disabled the networker takes the the default pool to save the data

hope i brought you a step further

Thx 4 your quick answer.
I'm afraid this does not help. The pool is enabled and other groups can save to it.

Hi Speridal

It´s only an idea but could it be a problem with the same name of the group and the pool because you said other groups can sava data into this pool

my idea is change the name of the group

hope this will help you

Hi cloner,

your idea was not too bad but it did not help. I've run out of ideas. Hopefully someone has another one.

Here's a wild question. Are you using a Compaq Gigabit Ethernet Card? If so, what is the NIC driver version?

you are right. We have a Compaq Gigabit Card NC6136 in both servers. We also had problems with this card in our MSCS.
We use the actual driver version 3.63.363.
So you think, this strange problem may be explained with our nics?!
Shell we try the registry setting (transmitmode=0) ? Or would you suggest using the old driver 2.x ?

There is a known problem with the Compaq Gigabit NIC cards with the Compaq driver v3.63. Even though the problem may show up through NetWorker, Compaq has acknowledged that it is their driver V3.63 that is the source of the problem.

The latest version is 6.2.33. If you are also using NIC teaming, then you need to update this software too to V7.11.711.1

You can find the links to these patches at:

thank you very much, wallace!

that it was. I changed the registry setting of the compaq gigabit driver (TransmitMode=3 -> Transmitmode=0) and everything works fine.
