Hello,

I want to deploy a wallpaper file to about 100 desktops. I have created a BMP file that is 800x600. I have a GPO for users/PC's and have set desktop options for Active directory, told path to file e.g. \\servername\share\filename.bmp

When I log in as a user, the desktop wallpaper is not there. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

First, make sure your users can browse to the share, and access that file.

Second, are there any other policies you have tried to apply in this particular GPO? If not, try another one. If they're not working, then the GPO is not applied properly to the users/group/OU that you want.

Hmm. I maybe wrong - but I thought AD only supports .jpg/webpages/.gif files?! Try it with AD disabled. Also, in my network we have a Jpg file as the desktop but I've deployed the image into the C:\ of each workstation to prevent any dodgey network problems/slower logons etc.

I had the same problem, but found that if I disable the hide all desktop icons policy the wallpaper appears.

-WHERE in the GPO did you set up the settings
-Could you please post the actual configuration of your GPO (just for the desktop settings)?

I'm having exactly the same problem as seands. I have a gpo which hides all the icons on the desktop, and is supposed to get a wallpaper from a shared network directory. Everyone has the correct priviledges, however the wallpaper is not being set. Any ideas???

I run several computer labs at a university so what I do is use mandatory profiles and use a bat file that copies down the bitmap at login just in case it gets deleted.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this unless your users are in a "uniform environment" like mine because a lot of things are stored in a profile like printer assignments and some application settings.

Does anyone know how to deploy a wallpaper from a shared directory on the server without using active desktop? I know you could do this with NT4 policy editor, and it dodnt use active desktop.

Any help is appreciated.
