I have two servers. 1 is my domain controller and exchange server (Server 2003) and Active Directory. 1 server is my file server (Server 2003R2)....R2 has the ability to deploy printers and from what I've read Server 2003 does not have the ability to have a group policy that deploys printers to my users but R2 does......my question.

Can I use the 2003R2 features to deploy a printer even though it does not have the Active Directory on it? Is this possible?

Is that possible w/ Server 2003?

After reading the article porkchopexpress posted (thanks!) I think I'll just walk around to each pc and connect it for them......wow, who would have thought getting a GP for printers was going to be such an ordeal.....WOW!!

Or just visit the vbscript forum here and see many examples of doing it with login scripts.

It's not that hard in R2. I have hundreds of printers pushed out that way. Nice and easy, and I can tell which machines have a printer by checking group memberships.

sniper.....are you using Server 2003 and if so did you update your schema to R2?

I just read from Microsoft that you should update your schema when you add a new R2 into the network even if you do not plan on taking advantage of it's features....

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?
