ok ive got a policy that will edit the registry

its the wuau22.adm template that i am using for configuring SUS client machines

now why wont the policy take affect?

if i put it in Local Group Policies it works fine, but i dont want it in local

so has any1 got any ideas?

thanks

Are you applying it to a user or a computer. I had to add the computers I wanted the policy to apply to, to the OU. I was unable to get it to work with users only in the OU.

its for computers

and heres something i worked out

ok there are 2 policies right

Local and Remote(policy from the server)

now i want to use the remote policy, wen i do nothing happens

so then i enable Local policies to do the same thing and local works

wen i hav local and remote to work at the same time, Remote works now

i found this out bye puting a registry value of Local in the local policy, and puting Remote in the Remote policy

and the result is Remote....

this is very odd

any1 got any ideas, thanks

Create a domain Group policy and allow your PC's or PC groups to apply that policy. Note make sure you do not have conflicting policies.

ok ive dun more troubleshooting, and it might hav sumthing to do with permissions

ok ive got the group policy going

and it onli wrks if the registry keys are alredy there

so it can modify existing keys
but not create them

I think i've got a similar, if not the same problem, and hope someone can help me out.

I created a new Group policy in the active directory called "Windows Update to SUS", edited the policy, and used the wuau template and to add registry settings to redirect users to our own sus instead of the windows update site.

The windows update settings are held in the 'computer configuration' section, and when I run gpupdate on my local xp machine to refresh the installed policy, it appears to update everything I have in the 'user configuration' section of the GPO, but nothing in the computer configuration section.

If I add the entries into the Default Domain Policy instead, then run gpudate, it does what it's meant to do and modifies my local registry with the windows update settings, but it won't work from my "Windows Update to SUS" policy.

Any ideas. Apologies if this is vague or confusing, but i'm just starting with Group policies so not up on any of it.

Regards

Griff

the problem for us was there was another group policy interfering with the rights...

and you canot add the group policy under user configuration

it has to be under "Computers"

try running gpupdate from "start" "run"

It is the group policy updater
