Hi, not sure whether to post here or in Exchange forum. I want to confirm: to have a group calendar, in Outlook, that allows users to see other calendars (in the same organisaiton) and invite others to meetings is to have Exchange installed. Is that right?

I've read a cheat way of doing it by setting up public calendars, putting shortcuts in a folder to all those public calendars...but this would only work if the other users computers were on when one wanted to check calendars and make appointments, which is just out of the question.

Assistance appreciated.

To my knowledge, Outlook will only share calendars via Exchange (or some other centralized server software.) When using PST files (Outlook without Exchange), only one person can access the PST file at a time. So, TECHNICALLY, you could set up a shared folder and let people access each others PST files but they wouldn't be able to do it at the same time and they wouldn't be able to send invites and such.
You could have everyone PUBLISH their calendars (as web pages) to a shared folder and then look at the calendars there but, again, you would not get the collaborative aspects of Outlook working.
Other people here would probably be better equipped to go over the specifics of these options. In most cases, people decide that it's not worth the hassle and either install Exchange, install one of the 3rd party alternatives available for purchase on the Internet or use something else (like Google Calendars) to accomplish the same goals. Hope this helps.
