I am using Framemaker 7.2 on a PC platform. Was previously using 5.5 on MAC, but this is the first time I am typesetting a book on the PC version, and I have been experiencing some troubles.

The MIF file I use to import into FM has a large number of graphics referenced in it.

When I open the file on the PC, FM finds all the graphic files correctly, but when it opens thedy all display as grey boxes.
I have checked that the graphics are all compatible for a PC platform, adn they are. They are all .bmp files and open fine in other programs on the PC.

The odd thing is that if I just go: File, Import and import one of the graphics manually, then the graphic appears fine - no problem at all.

So the problem seems to be when I import the MIF file into FM - it is not displaying the graphics correctly.

Any suggestions or help is much appreciated. Thanks.

when you right-click the grey box, what do you get for the file name when you open "Object Properties"?

And have you tried printing (to PDF or paper) with the grey boxes and see if you get the graphics?

You may have better results if you import the graphics by reference rather than embedding them in the document
