I am editing a document in Microsoft Word 2003.

Before I was seeing a grey background which was helping me identify which text was controlled using Form fields.

Now I am unable to see this background again.

Please help!

Form field shading is on in the toolbar!

On the Forms toolbar (View > Toolbars > Forms) click the Form Field Shading button - it looks like a wee "a" with shading lines.

It toggles shading either ON, or OFF.

I am sorry, but I can not duplicate this. If I toggle it OFF, the grey goes away. If I toggle it ON, the grey is there.

How do you know it is on? If you execute:
Code:
MsgBox ActiveDocument.FormFields.Shaded
Does it display "True"?

Other than that, the only way to know it is on...is if the formfields are grey.

Gerry

I runned it displays true.

I tried repairing Microsoft Word, but this was all in vain.

This is ridiculous.

One thing I noticed:

If insert a check box, it shows grey OK.
If insert a toc - no
If insert a cross reference - no!

Please help!

Say what???????

If insert a check box, it shows grey OK.
If insert a toc - no
If insert a cross reference - no!

1. that is a formfield, the shading button applies

2. that is NOT a formfield, the shading button does NOT apply. It should be "no!"

3. that is NOT a formfield, the shading button does NOT apply. It should be "no!"

You thought these were formfields?

Let me see if I can help. These are not formfields. They are Fields. Tell me, what do you see with Tools > Options > View.

What is the setting for Field shading?

Gerry

That's right - resolve. Thanks Gerry, you're a genius.

No, I am not a genius, but I do know a little about Word. There can be a lot to remember. Glad it is worked out for you.
