Greetings!
I have 2 tablets running 3700 v 5.4. they are windows 8.1 embedded. i dont know the particular micros produuct number, but they are the medium sized tablets, one step down form the full size station.
When i hardwire the tablets to my network they work great. i connected a cisco 1040 ap, then switched the tablets over to wifi making sure to change the static ip to reflect what the configurator wants.
i changed the ehternet ip to dhcp so the addresses are seperate between wifi and ether.
I can connect to the network over wifi just fine. i can ping the tablet from the server but no connection to the server from the tablet so the database wont load. i keep getting the "initializing database connection" progress bar.

waht can i do to get the 2 talking?

My employer wants to be able to float the tablets around the property and use credit cards asap. I am aware of PCI Compliance and will find a way of encrypting once i get connected.

do i need to "allow" the cisco router into the server? or make the router paaa thru the tablet ip if possible?

lotsa questions i know but i am struggling here! Thanks!

Your tablets should set a static IP address first.

Did u config your tablets in POS CFG with a license ordering number?

Did u try to reload DB from POS control panel?

If you have Micros mTablets, you will only be able to use the Wi-Fi OR Ethernet connection at one time, make sure you do not have both network interfaces enabled at the same time within Windows network settings.
Also, if you have updated the IP settings of the tablet in POS Configurator, you will need to press update hosts file in Devices, and reboot the POS server to allow the new MDSHOSTS.XML file to be recreated, and then picked up by the tablet.
Our tablets are connected to the POS server via an encrypted Wi-Fi connection to a secured VLAN, which is setup so it can only access the POS server.
Let us know how you get on ;-)

Thanks!
I appreciate the replys. I think i miscommunicated. all the stuff you have suggested i have done, except:

Our tablets are connected to the POS server via an encrypted Wi-Fi connection to a secured VLAN, which is setup so it can only access the POS server.

I cant even ping the server from the tablets, so the network isnt connecting. I am a total noob at the network level, but i can tell you this.

The ip's on the tablets for the wireless connection are set to whats listed in POS configurator. I have changed the wired adapter to an ip different than the wifi adapter. the connection between the tablets and the Cisco 1040 AP is unencrypted and open, so no passwords or keys.
What do i need to do at the network level to get the tablets to connect to the server? I have no other IT help other than myself and forums.

thanks again!

As I mentioned before, if it is a Micros mTablet that you are using, it does not matter if the Wired/Wi-Fi adaptor's are set to different static IP's, it will not work unless you disable the wired adaptor (right click in network settings, and select disable).

As you have setup the tablets IP network settings in POS config, you will need to read up about your router/access point's settings, and set it to provide the static IP that you entered in POS config.

One the tablet, manually enter the static IP details against the Wi-Fi adaptor, and once the tablet is connected to the Wi-Fi network, run the Micros CAL application on the tablet, select the correct workstation and settings, and it should all come together.

If you change the network settings in POS configurator, depending on what version of RES you are on, there maybe an option to update the hosts file, do this and then restart the Micros server to ensure the tablet can pull down the correct MDSHosts.xml

Thanks again,

will double check but think i already did just to be sure no confusion.

you will need to read up about your router/access point's settings, and set it to provide the static IP that you entered in POS config.

so my LAN ip on the 1040 WAP will be the same as one of my tablets wifi ip? this makes sense but what happens to the second tablet? Doesnt each POS whether tablet or terminal need its own ip? This is prolly part of the network knowledge i lack :(
