Hi there!

I'm using an application (Win client) built on a Progress database (UNIX Server). I have asked our programmer for a graphical/formatted report connected to the client but I'm just getting avoiding answers. Is it just not possible or what?
One other programmer mentioned Viper. Is that the answer?

At the moment I am testing Crystal Report. CR gives me the kind of reports I and the other users would get from the client directly. Is there any way to combine/connect the client application with Crystal Report?

What version of Progress / Crystal are you using? Progress has just hooked up with Seagate to integrate Crystal with Progress using the SQL Merant Driver. I beleive you have to be on the latest version of Progress (9.1d) but I could be wrong on that one. I just took a Crystal class from our softwre vendor which is Progress based, so I know it works, but I am just not sure of the version requirements. The software vendor also supports/uses Viper but I am just sinking my teeth into that one. Good Luck.

Thank you Carolyn for your answer!

Yes, I have ver. 9.1d of Progress and 9.x of Crystal Reports and I am using the SQL Merant Driver.
I still wonder how the intergration between Progress and Crystal should be made? Is it possible to make some kind of runtime versions of the reports that you could intergrate with the Progress client application or what?

Anders

I am not sure what you are asking me (sorry). The integration is made on the Crystal side. If you set upi your ODBC conncetion, then you are able to access all of the data in the Progress tables in Crystal. You dont actually run the Crystal reports from inside your Progress application.

You had mentioned Viper earlier. Viper is not a reporting tool, it creates documents (form) from within your Progress application.

Does this help?
Carolyn

Thanks again!

Yes, that was what I thougt.
So, if i would like to get, let's say, a printed invoice (with our logo, different fonts, etc.) just by klicking a button in our Progress application, then I can't use Crystal Reports but maybe Viper?

Anders

That is correct. If you want documents (forms) out of your application then use Viper. If yo want reports about your data then use Crystal.
