Granular blocking of email 1

I've got to block one specific external email address from reaching two of my internal email addresses. My two internal addresses still need to be able to email other people at the outside company.

I'm a total novice Exchange admin. It looks as though my best bet is to set up a virtual SMTP server and try to block the external address there. Do you think that's the right path to go down with my reading tonight, or could anyone suggest something less... drastic?

Thanks!

If you have SP2 installed, expand the org, expand Global Settings, and right click on Message Delivery and choose Properties. Click on the sender filtering tab and add the external addresses there.

Whoops - missed one part. Once that's done, right click on your SMTP virtual server>Properties>Advanced>Edit and check the box for Sender filtering.

Very much appreciate your reply!

It's my understanding that those changes will be global to the whole mail domain. Is that the case?

The catch in this situation is that only two very specific internal users need to be blocked from exchanging emails with the external user. I've got several other internal users who need to be able to exchange email with that same external user.

My spam firewall doesn't offer the degree of control necessary and AD only allows me to block delivery by internal addresses.

Thanks!

Well, you could create contacts for those external users, and then go to the Exchange General>Delivery Restrictions of the internal user's AD accounts, and add the contacts to the box at the bottom and choose "From everyone except"
