Does anyone know when Netscreen is expected to release the newer version of GPRO so it can managed NS5s with OS 4?

There is a VLAN feature in the new OS version. We have a NS5Xp and not a NS5XT. Will the VLAN work with just one port? Has anyone implemented this on a NS5XP?

Thanks,
BM

We are running a GP Express and upgraded to 4.0r2, which can manage 5XT/XP running ScreenOS 4, however, we were not able to make the GPX actually push the new ScreenOS 4 to our 5XT/XP's that were/are running ScreenOS 3.0.3r1.4.

In addition, after manually upgrading a 5XT to ScreenOS 4, the communication link between the XT and the GPX is not functional (updates sit at 20% forever). The only way we can get the XT's back on the GPX is by completly clearing the XT (unset all), configuring the IP's, deleting the device from the GPX device list, then re-adding the XT to the GPX and setup all of the functions and features again.

We have a feeling that our failed communication problem is due to a specific advanced setting on our current configuration, but we are not sure what is the culprit (MIPs, VIPs, VPN, etc). as we were able to resume communication with the GPX on a lab 5XP that did not have any advanced features enabled.

Needless to say, becuase of these issues, we are only running ScreenOS 4 on a couple of test NS5XT's. We are hoping that GPX updates (I understand 4.0r3 is out) will address the ScreenOS push issue, as well as not forcing us to re-create every XT manually.

Enjoy!

Interesting. How did you do the updates for the individual devices? According to NS there you have to do an incremental update before you reach OS4.

I know GPRO has some issues with updating anything with the VLAN feature if it is a 5XP. I have not had the pleasure to work on a XT though, so that might not be an issue with the XT as it is with our XPs.

I know some of the issues we still face are the shared names being too long for the 5XPs running OS 4. We are still trying to clean out this mess but not really getting anywhere.

The only thing we have not tried was to update our NS100s. But after all the problems with NS5s why would we want too.

Thanks,

BM

The 2 XT we brought up to Screen OS4 we did manually, thru the devices web interface, and to get it communicating with the GPX we had to unset all on the device and re create the device on the GPX, then all was fine.

When we upgraded the GPX to 4.0r2, we hastily ran an GPX update on all of our devices (2-204's and 15-5XT's) the update completly broke our 204's (they lost all interfaces and had to be re-configured thru the serial cable.) but our 5XT's (then running Screen OS3) took the update and continued to work fine.

We only ran into trouble applying Screen OS 4 to the XT's (The 204's took OS4 with minimal tweaking).

We thought we saw GPX 4.0r3 on the NS Downloads site, but looking for it today 4.0r2 is the latest release (maybe they pulled r3 off the shelf...)

Ghoward,

Did you do the updates incrementally? We were told that you were supposed to do it in a particular order i.e., 3.0.rx1 then 3.rx2 then to 4.x.x..

Thanks,

BM
