I've added a windows 2003 server to a previously 1-server 2000 domain and thought the new server had taken over all roles. I find that the gpo is still dependant on the old server. Does anyone know how I can solve this please?

Can you clarify what you mean by "taken over all roles"?

How is the GPO dependant on the old server? Is that server no longer online?

I mean the new 2003 server is a domain controller, running active directory, dns, dhcp. The old server is still running; I haven't dcpromoed as I thought it would be a good backup, and I've been migrating gradually over 2 visits a week.

Thanks for replying.

I'm not explaining very clearly. I assumed the new server was running the gpo, but when I turned the old server off to move it and test the situation, the gpo did not work. The 'my documents' folder redirection still goes to the old server. So I've turned it on again!

The GPO isn't going to automatically update to point to a new server just because you turned off the old server. It's doesn't work that way.

You'll need to manually change the GPO.

An alternative would be to use DFS for your shares.
