Hi,

I am a BA who will be helping a company restructure in GP. Currently they have three different companies set up. The new structure will be to create a Holding Co. with the three existing companies becoming sub-companies that roll up into the Holding Co. Some of the fiscal years will change.

My question is what questions should I be asking to help the developers along? Version is GP 8.0. Can this type of relationship be created in GP? A master co with sub companies that roll up?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Rick

You do not mention whether the existing companies reside in the same or separate databases within DynamicsGP.
If currently in separate databases, it would be just a matter of creating a new company database for the Holding Company and adding that company into your FRX Reporter tree.

If these three companies are all in the same database, given you mention you will be having differing fiscal periods, then a separation to separate databases is probably advisable.
However will will then require the construction of a Reporting Tree within FRX reporter so that you can get rollup and consolidation of financials.
As such, keep the existing database for archive, and create four new company databases.

Are the sub-companies separate legal entities where their shares are owned by the holding company?

Do the companies have the same customers? the same vendors? Do they share inventory and/or warehouse locations? Do they share employees? Should changes to any one of the foregoing be reflected in the other companies?
Do they / will they owe each other money?

Will any of the above change over time as the businesses grow?

This is not just a simple matter of changing around your G/L and its reporting. A lot of pre-planning and planning for the future needs to be done so that something that you implement today does not bite you in the a$$ down the road in a year or two or three.

You really need someone on site who has a thorough knowledge of GP and maybe has done something like this before.
