We are looking for good project management software that is preferably free or low cost. Any suggestions? Mike Wills

Go to and look in the entry dated Wednesday, February 13, 2002 - there are two programs that you can download from there. (You may have to go through the archives, which can be accessed from a hyperlink on the left side of the page.

Hello Mike,

In response to your question, are you primarily looking for a scheduling tool or are you looking for a robust PM solution? Do you want more than what MS PRoject provides?

... more like cheaper than MS Project. My manager seems to be mostly looking for something to track us programmers. But if there was something web-based that allowed good tracking, we might also be interested. Mike Wills

A little while back I looked for alternatives to MS Project for a non-profit organization. The only one I found that was worth getting was IMSI TurboProject. At $99 it provides most of the capabilities of MS Project. I tested it by defining a relatively complex project. It has its own quirks, but is quite capable and exceeds the capabilities of Project in some areas. It can import but not export Project files.

If you step up to the Pro version you are paying very close to the same as for MS Project, but you can swap files with MS Project users both coming and going, and it claims to have multiple project support. I have not tried the Pro version, so I cannot speak from experience about the enhancements over the base version.

I have used other IMSI software in the past with good results.
