Macola 7.5.103d
Pervasive bTrieve
Novell 4.11

Platform: XP Home, NetWare client 4.83 sp2

I've tried infomine 01.824.940, to no avail. Also, it isn't the \user\*.tmp problem. This PC could once access Macola. I suspect something else was installed on it since then, overwriting an older version of something that Macola needs. If using PWE, you get past the password prompt to the menus, but then you get the same error with any selection. I have an XP Pro box, same NetWare client, that can access Macola with no problem. Looks like you can't uninstall Macola, right? Also looks like when it gets installed it doesn't write over existing files. Any help would be appreciated.

JDonnewald: did you use the novell uninstall client utility to take off 4.9 before installing 4.83? Novell has always recommended a complete uninstall & it does really seem to make a difference rather than reinstalling over a previous version. Since you've solved it now, maybe it doesn't matter, but others on this post may not be aware of this novell quirk.

I've learned that using Novell's UNC32.Exe is the only way to solve many Macola connection problems, but With the XP client there isn't an UNC32.Exe - at least not that I'm aware of. You remove the Novell client via Control Panel, Network Connections. I think I found that out in one of their TIDs.

The novell doc that explains how to uninstall the client is 10013922. I hadn't realized they now support removing through control panel. However, this doc also indicates that registry entries may also need to be modified. Anyone ever seen an uninstall routine that compeletely cleaned up after itself? I seldom hesitate to edit the registry anymore. Either that, or fdisk & reinstall all your apps.
