I used several books. The one I found to be extremely helpful are the "Exam Cram" series. My recommendation is to go with the Exam Cram, read it, and then go through an entire study guide on the A+. Memorize IRQ tables, I/O addresses, microprocessor features, identification of RAM, calculation of hard drive size, and especially printer theory/troubleshooting. After that take a good number of practice tests. For me I went through about 1900 pages of material before I took the test, but that's what worked for me.

I used "Mike Meyer's A+ Passport" before I took the A+ test. It is an easy read, yet very helpful. There are practice questions at the end of each chapter and a practice cd too. Initially, I purchased the book because it was cheaper than most of the others. I think I paid $29.99 for it. But after reading through it, I realized that not only was it inexpensive, it was very informative as well. I read through the book twice, answered all the practice questions several times, and pasted the tests last month. However, what YOU purchase as a study guide depends on how much hands on experience you have. If you have little experience, you should probably buy more than one of the books already mentioned. If you are pretty comfortable with opening a case, then you might be able to get by with just one of the books.

Good luck on your test! Corey Palmer

I did the Mike Meyers Passport book as well. VERY easy read (and I hate reading long books). There is also the CD that I have yet to use for practice exams, but I'm working on it!

I also have found everones comments helpful.
I'll be checking out some of these other web sites.

I like the Exam Cram books.
Although I don't know Mike Meyers A+ Passport,
I do have one of his PC Upgrade books which is also excellent, so I'm a fan of his material also.

To Gary (Gwinn7)
Thanks for your summary of areas to study.
From my prelim study knowledge, I think you've covered the core Hardware componet.

Thanks
