Goldmine Error Message - PLEASE HELP 1

Hi all,

Very new to Goldmine, I am getting the following errors and I wonder if anyone may be able to shed light on what is causing them.

When I try to log in I get this one:

Unknown database.

Then I get this error:

Then a final OK crashes out of the system.
I know that my SQL client is working, I have reinstalled the software a couple of times with no joy, Im pretty certain that the problem is coming from the BDE as it mention that in the error message.

I already had the BDE installed on my machine and it did say in the setup that I may have to reconfigure it, but I dont know what to configure !!!

The error is almost certainly coming from the BDE, although it could still be connectivity issues with the SQL server.

Whenever you get connection issues such as this then the first step is to establish if the BDE can connect to the SQL database.

Then if that is succesful if GoldMine can then connect to the BDE.

Run the BDE Administrator program from your GoldMine\setup\bdeshare directory. For information make a note of where the cofiguration file is being held - it will say this along the title bar.

Do you know the name of the BDE alias that GoldMine is using? If it is a default installation then it will likely be GoldMine_Sales or GoldMine_Contacts.

Locate the correct alias in the BDE on the left, highlight it and check the settings on the right-hand side are correct. Pay attention to the Server name and database name.

Once you are certain these are valid, double-click on the alias on the left to connect to the database. If the BDE can connect ok with the SQL database then the alias name will go bold.

If not then check your settings again or it could be a SQL connectivity issue, in which case try changing to Named Pipes using the SQL client network utility if using TCP/IP.

We are currently trying to install Goldmine on a W2K box running SQL2000.

When a client tries to connect we are receiving the same errors as Rob.

All of the above tests that Robert suggested all worked but clients still can not connect.

Did you manage to solve the problem and if so how?

One of our people managed to solve the problem. It had something to do with the ntwdblib.dll that Goldmine was trying to use. This seems to become an issue when a client tries to connect to the database.

Sorry I can't be more explicit but I wasn't envolved with the fix.

This error does come from your borland, Just go to your registry and in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, rename the borland to oldborland then run goldmine... This should work

ntwdblib.dll is MSSQL's client utility DLL for TCP/IP connectivity to the MSSQL server. Without it, your GoldMine/BDE will not be able to connect to the SQL server and the databases within. Installing the MSSQL client utility on the workstation(s) is the solution. Manually copying the individual DLL to the windows\system32 folder would also work, but may be a violation of the MSSQL CAL licensing.. check with your lawyer for details..

I have the same error that Rob.
and the ntwdblib.dll was already on the windows\system32 directory.

I use windows XP.

the path to the config file on the bde is \\server\goldmine\setup\bdeshare\idapi32.cfg
All computers which use goldmine use this path.

On the first installation of goldmine all was Ok. but when I have installed Assetframe, goldmine generate the same error like Rob.
I have saved the registry before the installation of Assetframe but the problem is not resolved.

The person in charge of Goldmine here gave the following info:
The Goldmine server by default used the idapi32.cfg file that was installed in its Program Files directory. In order to make all the client machines function properly I had to make sure they also were using this config file. The below is what I send to IT; GOLDMINE01 was our server name.



When you install a client station you need to configure the BDE idapi32.cfg file the client station is using.



1) OPEN \\goldmine01\GoldMine\Setup\BDEShare and open the bdeadmin.exe

2) Select OBJECT menu and Open Configuration

3) Select file from My Network Places and go to the Goldmine01\BDE shared folder

4) Select idapi32.cfg

5) Close program and click yes to use as default configuration

What's 'Assesframe'? Is it another program that uses the BDE? If so, maybe it installed an older version of BDE than GoldMine can successfully use. If your BDE version is lowere than 4.51 you'll definitely not get anywhere. >5.10 is preferred.

Otherwise, if the BDE version is okay, you might try going into BDE admin to the System|Init settings and check that the Sharedmemlocation is 4000 or 4BDE or 6000 (try different settings to see what works best for you... The default of 7000 is BAD... Especially if you have other applications that use the BDE. One will lock out the other..

Yes Goner Assetframe is another program which use the bde.

but when I do it on another computer, the same error appears when I launch goldmine "1: Alias: GoldMine_Contacts

This refers to the MSSQL Client Utility on the machine that throws this error. NTWDBLIB.dll stands to Network (NTW) Database (DB) Library (LIB)... Install the MSSQL Client Utility and he should be good to go...
