Here is something that that test doesn't ask.

When you have trouble where do you go to look for help?

A. Tek-Tips
B. Tek-Tips
C. Tek-Tips
D. Tek-Tips

I have a feeling this forum keeps half of us employed lol

second attempt: 70% (21 questions) in 24 minutes.
I thought about registering, but it wants personal info such as my home address. MS already have that from sending me the Security update CD tied to my MSN passport account, why do they want it again?

Wow 20/30 in 22 minutes...I guess I'll take that. That's tough!

19/30 First Attempt
15/20 Second Attempt

Do people feel that some of the questions had more possible answers than were require or answers were too similar to pick a definitive answer.

Now I know why I am unemployed at the moment [bigsmile][bigsmile]

doh, just registered to take it again, and got pulled away on an incident.. and it timed out.. i got a 5/30 as my official score after answering 7 questions lol :p

A whopping 17. Woo-hoo!

Well I've discovered how unseasoned my XP skills really are (though some of the questions I encountered seemed to have little to do with the XP). Guess it's time to hit the study guides.

Thanks for the link Bill, not to mention rude awakening!

bcastner - thank you!!! I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I'm not a very good test-taker - I have a tendancy to choke - so I'm just calling my test results "lucky". I've been troubleshooting computers (micros to mid-range) since 1986 and I teach system design at the local college. In my opinion (and this is what I teach my students) it's far better to know how to find the answers than to commit all the possibilities to memory. I've also found that those who learn by rote are far less likely to accept new methods then those of us who, like cranebill, make extensive use of sources such as Tek-Tips.

Congratulations to all!!!

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

What is curious is if you take the actual XP exam, you can be asked questions that are completely off the wall. From the certification Forum on Tek-Tips:

16) Which of the following commands it used to record the original state of an XP Pro install?
A. SYSDIFF / APPLY
B. SYSDIFF / DIFF
C. SYSDIFF / INF
D. SYSDIFF / SNAP

I guessed D.

17) Running __________ creates a text record of a Sysdiff difference file.

I guessed SYSDIFF / DIFF, because is was an option in question 16 that seemed to fit. I could find no supporting documentation online or in this book; I asked many of the sys admins at my company; they looked at me like I had 3 heads; they have never used or heard of sysdiff.exe outside of an NT 4.0 (Workstation) install.

All the more surprising as Microsoft does not support the use of the Sysdiff tool under XP:
I must admit I spent a fair amount of time during the test taking complaining using the comment feature about the choices offered. I think that assured my 13/30 score.

I am pleased to see all of you brave enough to test your mettle. I would be interested to see how the Tek-Tip XP forum members do on this exam. As a guess, I could take this exam twenty times and end up in the 12-18 range.

I complained about one question in which the client changed gender part way through it. Somehow I get the impression that these questions have not been proofread fully, but I'm glad its not just me.

John

19/30. brilliant test but as usual there are some questions that you will never need to know the answers to in real life scenarios.

Can I have half the coffee mug?

Bill, mpnut, and cranebill,
What kind of beer should I bring? I think after this craziness, I should bring a keg!!!

Im thinking Labatt Blue... but since your bringing a keg, anything will do....

Hey kinda rhymes... maybe I should be a poet and not a Computer Geek lol

Bill

As a test I retook the assessment. This time instead of using just my brain for resources I used every resource I know and scored a 28 out of 30 (ran out of time). So the big question is whether it is a true benefit to know EVERYTHING or have a good base knowledge and know where to find the answers to things you do not know.

:)

Bill

18/30 in 23 minutes. I'll stand pat.

Umm, I thought that I would do better then I did, considering that I haven't studied anything for the MS Cert's. All the things that I learned where from hands on and just troubleshooting server/ workstation problems.

Score 21/30...

R

Well, I haven't studied for any certs, and we also only have 1 XP Home edition PC here at work (out of 60 machines)...

I scored a 16 in 23 minutes.

It says my strong points are:
-Supporting users running applications in a corporate environment
-Supporting users connecting to network resources and the Internet
-Supporting users customizing their operating environment

Which is good, as that's what I'm paid for :)
