I have been using Linux for several years, but just made the jump tp using a Linux based workstation. Everything seems to work grate, but I have a question concerning the GNOME desktop.

I have figured out how to create a shortcut and place it in the panel and then drag that shortcut to the desktop. Is there a way to create the shortcut directly on the desktop without having to create it in the panel first?

For example, I have installed Mozilla, and I dragged the startup script, Mozilla, to the desktop. However, GNOME recognized this as a script and opens it using gedit. But, if I create the shortcut in the panel first and then drag it to the desktop, everything works fine.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

you dont mean right click "new launcher" do you mate ?

If I right click on the desktop, I do not have an option for "new launcher". However, if I right click on the panel, I do have the option of "new launcher".

The version I am using came with RH 7.2, so I am wondering if it is an extremely early copy of 1.4 that did not have all the options included.

I will try downloading the latest and greatest at work tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks for your help.
