I just subscribed to Tek-Tips.

I work for a bank in Arizona, but we are owned by a Financial company in Iowa. Our parent company has just adopted GoldMine and I'm going to be the administrator and also trainer. I took a week long administator series training class last week.

My question is, how does GM+view work?

We have an application called Trustrite. In GM+View, can you use the application like usual, or would we only be able to view just a particular window of the application?

Any responses would be appreciated.

Geoff

Wow, get your money back from that WEEK-LONG GoldMine admin class...

The GM+View tab basically allows you to display a web page (a static html page or even one out on the internet) The trick is that it allows you to pass information from the current contact to that page. Check out my article on using the tab to display some cool stuff from Google Maps and other Google stuff:
That should whet your appetite. ;)

If you like that, maybe I can help you and yours get the most out of your GoldMine, because, obviously, whoever gave you a WEEK-LONG GoldMine training class but didn't cover the GM+View tab is somewhat lacking... At least in my opinion...

Thanks Doug. No, the class didn't cover that tab, but covered everything else. I felt it was a very good class. I'll check out your website right now.

I appreciate your offer and will perhaps take you up on it. I'm headed to our home office in Dubuque Iowa next week to sit with our IT guy to help him get GM on our Network. After that perhaps I'll contact you, if you don't mind.

I tried your example with a google map. I don't know if I followed it right, as I didn't seem to work.

It just put a link in the GM+view, is that was it was suppose to do? Also, it did it for all the contacts not just one.

I'm currently working with a single user, 6.5 GM. Our corp. version will be 7.0 Corp. Ed.

Be sure to follow the step in the instructions where you hit the <H> button to go into HTML mode before pasting the code.. ;)

I did. But I guess I'm not sure what code I'm suppose to copy. Is it the code that is up in the address window of Explorer, when I'm in Google?

You mentioned something about downloading in the instructions, but I wasn't sure what was to be downloaded.

Sorry, I don't mean to bother you with this, but thank you for your responses.

I still can't figure it out. I guess I'm not understanding what I'm supposes to be saving to my desktop and then how I'm suppose to get it into GM. I also not clear if in the GM+view field it's suppose to be a link like or the actual map of the address I wanted?

I'm just was testing it to see how it works. I don't need to use it right now.

Thanks for your help I appreciate it. I'm just wet behind the ears when it comes to Web stuff. I'm learning as I'm going.

I appreciate your time.

Geoff

--Go to the GM+View editor
--Create a new GM+View entitled Google Map Directions
--Hit the <H> on the upper right corner of the window which should expose a bunch of worthless HTML for you, delete it all & replace it with the above
--save/close the editor and the GM+View thing.
--go to the tab on any given contact records and you should have handy directions to the contact's primary address from your licensed address (stored in file|Configure|License Manager|Registration info)

Doug,

Thanks, it worked.

I really appreciate your time. I had not intended to be such a pest when I posted that message today.

If you don't mind I might be back in touch with you once we go live with GM.

Thanks

Geoff.

No problem. The GM+Views area can be quite powerful.. Passing info to a map site like this is very gee-whiz, sure, but the real power comes when you can tie in other databases via php or asp web pages on your intranet. I have customers who've written huge interfaces in there to tie in everything from access databases, oracle erp systems, support ticketing systems, document management systems, etc. etc. The skie's the limit, really, once you know what it's capable of.

Looking forward to talking to you, down the road. :)

Geoff,

Just to reinforce something here, if your admin course doesnt cover what the GM+View does then I suspect your course leader has little or no experience with getting the best out of GoldMine. The GM+View is one of the most useful integration points in GoldMine. You can easily read/write to ERP systems from there or for example pull stats from Nasdaq, FTSE, or FX systems.

Give Doug a call. He knows what hes doing.

Richard.
