Is there any way to configure a global exclude list for Windows clients? Or must the list be configured specifically for each client?

The current NB version is 5.1 MP1. I will also need to the do the same on version 6.x.

Thanks.

You can add your exclusions to each client's registry. HKLM\software\veritas\netbackup\currentversion\config\exclude in binary format. You can create a script to add it to the registry of remote machines. You could even create a policy to run the script each day, you could push out the same script file to all servers and they would update the exclusions each day or any time you needed to make changes.

This sounds good, but how do you do clients that have additional client specific exludes? Like a huge .dbf?

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and that is truth.

You would have to do these manually and not include them in the exclusion update policy.

I'm familiar with the current version>config but what entry do you put in the registry for certain files?

Do you create a string value? Then what?

The value should already be there if not create MULTI_SZ value called "Exclude" and put you exclusions in binary format. You can use REGEDT32 to enter as text and it will convert it to Binary. you can export this with regedit and us it in your script. You would end up with something like this.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"Exclude"=hex(7):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,50,00,72,00,6f,00,67,00,72,00,61,00,6d,00,\
