Help!
I am unable to get my development server to execute my global.asa file.

I use that file to create a session variable to identify the visitor from page to page and it works fine when I publish to my production server, but my development server won't execute it.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

okay...I'll start with simple stuff. I'm sure you've already verified these but...can't hurt to ask (right?).
Is the global in the root?
Have you copied the prod version back to dev (in case there's a typo in one that's not in the other?)
Have you copied the prod version of the pages back to dev?
I don't really use the global (yet) but these might be some basic places to start.

Simple stuff is good.
root, yes.
copied prod of global to dev, yes.
copied prod of pages to dev, no. I can try that but I usually publish dev to prod every day and I've had this symptom on dev for some time, just now figured out what is going on.

My global is checking Server.Variables against an access database, and retrieving and setting a Session Variable identifying access level for the rest of thier visit to the application.

OK, I may not have my Dev server set up correctly, If you could help me out a little I would appreciate it.

I do have Visual Interdev installed, but am currently not using it as much as I should be, I am scheduled to attend a week long class in March. I am testing from the browser but my root web has been changed to c:\Web Dev. Do I need to chang it?

In Internet Services Manager, Home Directory, Local Path is
c:\Web Dev

If I need to change that and move everything to the
c:\Inetpub\that won't be a problem, just have to make the change, Do I need to do that in order to make it work?

Thanks

Nope, u dont need to move all to the If u have the global.asa in your c:\Web Dev it showuld be worked but if not replace the global.asa file form with yours and try then.
Usualy the global.asa from the dir will be executed for each web or subweb u have in the If this not work try to move the project in the Did u use Visual Interdev? cuz if so u need something else... ________

Tried all above except moving into have moved web dev into inetpub and tried moving global around but no help. Still not executing.

I do have Visual Interdev installed, have used it at times, don't know enuf about it to be less than dangerous. yet.
What else might I need?

U are using Visual Iterdev, OK.
U create the Project Local or Master?
I think u create the project Local. U need to replace the global.asa file from your local Project in the MyDocuments\Visual Studio Projects\YourProject_Local\... ________

I don't use Visual Interdev on a regular basis, it is loaded and I use it to update some pages, but primarily I use MSFrontPage to make and publish all my changes.
I have never created a project in Visual Interdev, therefore I dont have anything in the suggested directory except an empty Project1.
Can or should I convert my existing web into a project?

The global.asa from the "inetpub/ must solve your problem but u sayed cuz did not.
The global.asa from "c:\Web dev\global.asa" also must solve your problem...

One more thing: try this way.
1. Look in the inetpub/ after global.asa if this exists delete it or move it from there. Look in your c:\Web dev after global.asa and replace it with yours and then restart the web server(IIS). After that try your project.

2. Remove or move the global.asa file from c:\Web dev. Replace the global.asa file from the inetpub\ the web server(IIS) and try your project.

This is the only two solution in your case(vuz u dont use Visual I for projects).
If this didn't work try to Reinstall The FRONTPAGE SERVER EXTENSION.
If the last solution didn't work i dont know what to say anymore...
Hope this finally helps You...
