i added people to the global address list using the custom recipient feature but now it seems that people who have these certain e-mail address' already in their contact list' when they try to send to these people either pulling them off the global address list or contact list it does not send and gives a service unreachable error.

Hmmm.
Seems to me like a DNS problem on your exchange server.
Try to browse the Internet on your Exchange Server, and test with PING and NSLOOKUP.

It sounds like the search order is set to search the Personal Address list before using the Global Address List or the Contact List. The address in the personal address list was probably created wrong (the user most likely created it using the Microsoft Mail choice rather the the Internet Mail choice) or is an old old address, imported in from MSMail or someplace. The user should remove the address in their personal address list or change the search order in Tools/Services/Address List menu area.
