Gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra + XP: Large HD problem

I've just built myself a new PC with a Gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra motherboard and Western Digital 200gb HD. I've installed Windows XP Home edition.

When installing XP it only allowed the creation of a maximum 130gb partition and I can't find any way of getting to the other 70gb of HD space.

I've been to the Gigabyte web site and downloaded and installed the latest BIOS update (now running version F4 of the BIOS).

Any suggestions on how I can get the other 70gb of space to be visible to XP?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Maybe this will help:

Thanks for the article link. My drive is formatted as NTFS, but XP still won't recognise the missing 70gb. :-(

I know you're not the only one with the same problem, but I can't remember the workaround.
Try a search, I know it was on here somewhere, maybe in the WinXP forum...

Cheers,

Well I have to say that I'm very impressed but more significantly very grateful for the swift response from the people that read this thread and replied to it. In the space of a few short hours you've put me on to what looks like the right track to fixing this problem.

This Microsoft knowledge base article explains the 48 bit addressing that needs to be turned on in order to handle drives over 137gb...

Will try the Registry entry this evening and post back my findings.

Thanks again. :)
