Anyone else experienced lock up problems on the gig cards on the extremes ( in our case a G12SXi the MTRJ one) card will stop forwarding traffic to ports, but you can still resolve the mac address to the correct port. Reseting the offeding slot fixes the problem, but its a bit wierd ??

I haven't heard over that one, Was there anything that has changed just prior to that. What do you mean by lock up? Have you added any new quipment to that card? changed any config's? Do you have ESRP running?

If by blade locking up you mean all the link lights go solid amber, then it looks like you have a broadcast storm. If you have specific versions of extremeware that had problems with ESRP it could be that.

hope this helps

Its a very wierd problem, no changes made to the switch recently, very plain jane networking involved no esrp etc.
Networks nicely subnetted, no broadcast storms, just several ports on one blade failing to pass traffic. You can see the MAC address in the fdb, all the rest of the cards and ports are pushing traffic. Reset the card abd it pops back into life

Can you do a sh ver and let me know what the output of that is. If on your G12's have a number that doesn't match this 701020-00-18 this (less then in the last 2 digits) you most likly have an older card, maybe failing. Have you run diagostic's on the card? If not schedule some downtime and do a 'run diagnostics extended slot #' where the # is sub in the number of the offending slot. Running this command will take the card offline, so don't run it while users are on the system. What Extremware ver are you running? Have you tried moving ports that you're having problems with to other ports off the card? just to see if the problem follows?

Just thought I'd update you guys with what I've done on this fella, basically we had a couple more strange recoccurences of the problem, Extreme came back with several solutions:-
In the end decided th swap out the card with a replacement, this card demonstrated the same problems within mins of insertion, so resorted to plan B and moved the card down a slot. The problem hasn't reoccured.. Its a bit of a wierd one, this could be related to flexible back plane problem extreme black diamonds are supposed to have on earlier models, but I checked the serial numbers on the card and this shouldn't be the case..

Very Wierd

You mean they haven't given you a backplane stiffener? We had to insert them into our BD's a while ago, a bit of a pain.
[cheers]

Did the backplane stiffener improve matters ??
According to Extreme we shouldn't need to fit them as our boxes were made after they discovered this problem.

Its something we should probably do anyway, but as my companies about to sell us all down the river, I'm less inclined to do this piece of work!

Yes, they did, but I believe our were made prior to that, our SE said that they should have been sent to us. It's a bit of a pain, since you need to down the BD to install the stiffener, but at least you would be able to rule that out. Another thing you could do is when seating your cards, place one hand in the rear of the BD and press as you seat the card. This may help in keeping the backplane stiff. good luck [cheers]
