Using Ghost 2003 to clone XP machines. Getting the following error when attempting to change the SID:

Error opening a:\dos\ghstwalk.exe for write

Any help would be appreciated. Couldn't find this specific error on the Symantec web site nor the manual.

Error: "Error opening A:\GHSTWALK.EXE for write" when launching Ghost Walker

Situation:
After starting a computer from a floppy boot disk you see the error message, "Error opening A:\GHSTWALK.EXE for write" when attempting to run Ghost Walker.

Solution:
This error message is displayed because the file Ghstwalk.exe has the read-only attribute set. This happens when Ghost Walker is copied directly from the CD. To resolve the problem, remove the read-only attribute from Ghstwalk.exe on the floppy disk.

To remove the attribute from DOS

1. Click Start, point to Programs, and click MS-DOS Prompt.
2. Type:

ATTRIB -R A:\GHSTWALK.EXE

NOTES:
These steps assume your floppy drive is A. If it is not A, change the drive letter in the line CD A:
If this command displays an error such as "invalid command," Windows cannot find the Attrib.exe file. The Attrib.exe must be in your current folder or in the path. To correct the problem, copy Attrib.exe into the Windows folder.
To remove the attribute from Windows
1. Right-click the filename in Windows Explorer.
2. Select Properties.
3. Uncheck the Read-only box.
4. Click the OK button.

You should now be able to use Ghost Walker without this error.

Thank you XS4all, that was the problem and solution. It just so happened that right after I posted this question, I went back to the Symantec website and did another search and found the solution at

Perhaps this will help someone else that may run into the same problem, can happen to anyone who copies files directly off a CD without changing the Read attribute. Again, thanks!
