Hey can anyone tell me if you can use the regular Ghost (Not ghost for netware ) to make a image of our GWIA server.I have read that some people have done it without a problem and some people says that it won't work.I have done it on a test p.c. running netware 4.11 without any raid on a 1 gig drive and it did work with the same size drive a couple of years ago.But it wasn't a true server.Thanks.

Hello,
You might be lucky if it works, I always use Portlock to make Netware servers images works pretty good.

good luck.

Portlock is the best. I love it...And now even supports netware 6.5...WOOT

I haven't tried this. However, as a suggestion I would unload GWIA/MTA/POA to ensure none are running while you attempt your ghost image. That way there won't be any open file errors or anything skipped. You know how finicky GWIA can be with Backup Software at times. I would treat it the same way.

I've also heard great things about Portlock, and will be using this with out next server upgrade.

Good Luck and post your results. Thanks.

Thanks guys I will give the info to my purchasing person and get the Portlock a try. Thanks Again.

Not sure how may people know this but Symantec Ghost 7.5 and above supports Netware partitions, I use this to ghost my servers for backup and SP installs.

If this is bad info or I am not supposed to do this then maybe someone can let me know ASAP.

Regards

Sorry to say I have been using ghost 8.0 for the last 6 months now and it does a good job for not supporing NSS partitions as it works brilliantly for me and I ghost at least once a month automaticly to my ghost server.

When you are using it it does say that the partition is Unknown when it is ghosting Netware partitions but still runs fine.

i double checked and re-ghosted a test server from last months ghost session and it is all fine.

hope this helps

You can just ghost the partitions that you want just tell it which ones.
