I have a user that somehow has retained an outline of a menu box right in the middle of the screen. The laptop has been turned off, over night, and now is on the docking station at work displying this ghosted menu box onto the external monitor.

How do you kill the cached lined box that is ghosted onto his screen?

Any help... thanks

Tom

Are you quite sure someone isn't playing a practical joke? Have you checked the wallpaper setting?

I snapped a few different wallpapers in place.... still there. It resides on his laptop monitor and is being pushed across to his monitor attached to the docking station! Super odd

No solution but would be curious if changing the resolution of the screen changes the size of the box. Also whether there is a difference if started in safe mode or safe mode with command prompt or in setup.

Boot it to a live linux cd, this doesn't sound like hardware, because what you are describing sounds like some type of corruption. you could try removing the video drivers, let it reboot, and reinstall them to see if it will clear it.

Is the external monitor a CRT or a flat panel ? If it's a CRT, the image may have been 'burned in' over the years....

Fred, it's moved to another monitor.
1st question.
Is it there on boot?
