Hmm seems to be one missing

System restart : caused by picking up a phone and dialing a number

That is a joke.

Hopefully 4.0 may now be stable'ish.

Just in time for 4.1 to screw things right up.

Bring back 3.1!

That's embarrassing. If any of our customers saw that they'd probably be wondering if they'd invested in the right system. As a relative newcomer to the telecoms world I'm continually impressed with the IPO as a solution. But recently I've been somewhat unnerved by the reliability of the latest software. I know a lot of people stick to their ‘favourite’ builds but that’s not possible with an IP500 – it has to be 4.0!

With all the additions in 4.1 coupled with the new hardware options it makes me wonder if 4.1 will be any better..

3.1 (65) never had any problems with it...
Well amost never!!

Let's just hope 4.0 is stable, think we'll leave 4.1 for the in house sysetm for the time being.

Why is this 4.0.14 I thought the new release was 4.1 ? Am I missing something?

4.0(14) is the maintenence release for v4.0

V4.1 is a seperate release and will include the new features.

At the recent tech forum Avaya admited things have gotten out of hand & have improved the quality testing.
the V4.0 maint release when release should be stable
& all fixes should be included in the 4.1 build
(trial sites have looked quite stable so far)

BTw you forgot the final reboot cause
reboot caused by cust throwing phone & coms cab in frustration!

They did look a little sheepish about it IPGuru!!!!!

Only sell maint releases feature sets. The others are not really ready for the field anyway.

You can disagree with me, you have that right, but if there are any work arounds that are required, and they are not in the PDF, then the work around is not available for general availability. Therefore it is not ready for the general release, just because you, as many of us can figure out ways to unbreak something which is broken. Good for you, and for me who are able to do what Avaya can not do(make it work), but that is a reflection of us, not the product, unless Avaya provides the amended PDF to lead us through the amended procedure to work around.

To find a release that Avaya can make work stick to the Maint releases. If you disagree with me, I submit it is you who are the one making it work, not that it actually works.

I don't know how much of that sheepishness was down to the bad survey reports...

Take Care

aarenot, I agree with you but when new hardwar eis only supported by new software it causes a bit of a problem!

Am Downloading now and it's taking 30 mins size 678 mb so I think it's on now!!

Also if nobody uses the 1st ga then the issues are never discovered.
catch 22

I tend to only use the newest release if it contains features that the cust requires.

No flippin user cd either.

I know, 4.0.10 no VM cd now 4.0.14 no User cd......are they trying their hardest to annoy us or what? If everything is not ready then don't release it...as you can bet your bottom dollar if you install this and get issues with Soft Console etc they will say you need to wait for the latest User cd first.

POTNOODLEBOY,
I see your point when considering the new IP500 hardware as a solution for your customers. It might be best to shy away from hardware which requires software which is untested in the field. Hopefully with the new Maint release the IP500 will actually be ready for market now. I would stick with the new maint release, and not move from it until you are going to another maint release. You can stick with the old hardware until the maint releases are out if you choose to.

IPGURU,
I see the point of your second statement about sticking to maint releases.
The first statement has me a bit confused though. If your concern is, as it should be, your customer, your customer service, your customers experience with your companies attention to their goals, needs, communications stability/performance, and with your companies, and your personal performance in regard to the services you provide, WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU CARE IF THE NEW FEATURE GA GETS ITS ISSUES DISCOVERED AT ALL?
It seems to me that that should be Avayas concern not anyone elses, and the bugs would get worked out sooner, and probably in the pre-releases phase if we stopped implementing when it is not of the quality we consider appropriate for our customers, and our bottom line. That does require that we push the sales force implementation of the new feature sets into the sales pitch by about one release cycle date, waiting to sell the maint release not the new feature release.
Also IPGURU, I know you are concerned with your implements performance, and this is not a concern about that in your case, but you did raise the point, so I addressed it to you. We as techs can test things on our own systems, not customers to find the issues.

In regard to the release of new software, the most encouraging thing I have seen so far is that the releases have been delayed from original scheduled dates. That shows something other than the date is the priority. These are just my opinions, and what do I know, I am just another of 1021 technical people in this forum so I am just offering my opinion, not figuring I know it all. I do know that I will not put in a new release GA without stating my lack of confidence in it to the customer, after that, and a surcharge for that releases expense effect, it is the customers problem if they choose to ignore my warning.

Do you know what else, maybe this is just me but it bugs me.

When they bring out a 4.0.14 Admin cd why cant the vm pro, pm pro etc all be 4.0.14 too?
